Its annual Elder Abuse Prevention Community Awareness Campaign incorporates World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on 15 June – a global occasion that highlights the mistreatment and violation of the human rights of older people.

The new campaign features a full toolkit which includes television commercials and audio and visual aids, website, and resources for everyone interested in helping to recognise and combat ageism.

It’s theme “Ageism can lead to abuse. How do you treat the older people in your life?” highlights that ageism can lead to abuse, mistreatment, and neglect.

Tackling ageism is an Enabling Factor of South Australia’s Plan for Ageing Well 2020-2025 which commits SA to leading the way in creating an inclusive society, moving beyond ageism.
