LawRight
Improving the lives of vulnerable people by increasing their access to justice through strategic partnerships with pro bono lawyers.
LawRight improves the lives of vulnerable people by increasing access to justice through strategic partnerships with pro bono lawyers. 30,000 pro bono hours are donated annually by over 800 lawyers from 65 law firms, 170 barristers and 140 law students. By connecting to clients at community, health, and civic organisations, LawRight increases their access to housing, income and legal rights and improves their health and well-being.
We have partnerships at 15 locations, where staff and visiting pro bono lawyers collaborate with health and community workers to resolve the complex, intersecting problems of clients including people experiencing domestic violence, mental illness or homelessness, refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
We have on-site services at eight Brisbane registries and remote services throughout Queensland for vulnerable people navigating civil court and tribunal proceedings. Our strategic partnerships with pro bono lawyers match the legal problem, process and capability of the individual. These services incorporate the Court & Tribunal Services (CTS), Duty Lawyer, mediation, and appearance services, as well as MHRT representation and advocacy services.
We offer Pro Bono Connect assesses applications for civil law pro bono representation and refers them to firms and barristers, using either a public interest test for our members or a broader test on behalf of the QLS and BAQ referral schemes.
Elder abuse matters are assisted through our Pro Bono Connect (PBC) if the matter is eligible. You can contact us at probonoconnect@lawright.org.au; however we cannot offer legal advice on the spot and still require a completed LawRight Application Form to assess before taking someone on as a client. You can find the form here.
