Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre
A Community Service which provides free and confidential legal advice and counselling support for seniors 60 years and over in the Fraser Coast community who are experiencing or at risk of, elder abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation.
The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre in QLD was founded in 1989 as a community-based initiative to provide help, friendship, and support to the most disenfranchised people in the community. The emphasis of all of our activities is on people and the relief of issues and concerns that impede them from living a successful and happy life.
We develop and deliver programs and services in response to community needs. Presently, the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre manages 30 funded programs that encompass aspects of aged care, family services, diversity, and social isolation.
Our priority core values are:
To be a leader in Community Development
To ensure staff and volunteers are equipped to deliver quality services
To maximise our resources to support our mission
To embrace new opportunities through innovation
To ensure we are listened to by Government, supported by business, and respected by the community
The Neighbourhood Centres are committed to the basic philosophies that:
The people involved in or affected by the Centre in whatever capacity ( i.e. paid, voluntary, committee member, Local Government, Community Agency) are the people involved in making decisions about the Centre.
Centres enable the capacity of the most disadvantaged to ensure their involvement and participation.
Centres empower people to have a level of control over resources, information, decision-making and relationships.
Centres work in a flexible and responsive manner to meet community needs and issues.
