Elder Abuse Service – Central Coast and Lower Hunter

Dedicated help for older people on the Central Coast of New South Wales to understand abuse and how to protect themselves legally.

The Elder Abuse Service (EAS) at Legal Aid NSW is a specialist service that can assist older people residing on the Central Coast and Lower Hunter regions who are experiencing or at risk of elder abuse.

The EAS is made up of both lawyers and social workers who work together to support clients with their legal problems while also supporting them to address the underlying social issues of the abuse.

To be eligible for our service you must:

  • Be 65 years or older (or 50 or older if you are Aboriginal);

  • Reside on the Central Coast or in the Lower Hunter;

  • Be experiencing or at risk of elder abuse;

  • Consent to working with our service.

The Elder Abuse Service can assist client’s with matters like:

  • Housing and granny flat issues

  • Centrelink debts

  • Family breakdown

  • Informal loans

  • AVOs

  • Guardianship and Powers of Attorney*

  • Physical and sexual abuse

  • Financial abuse

  • Psychological abuse (bullying, harassment, isolation and neglect)
