Bourke Aboriginal Health Service

Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (BACHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) and provides primary health care services initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care to the community. BAHCS is usually controlled by a locally elected Board of Management, consisting of Directors who volunteer their time and services. However, BACHS is currently under Special Administration.

Aboriginal health is not just the physical wellbeing of an individual but is the social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of the whole community in which each individual is able to achieve their full potential thereby bringing about the total wellbeing of their community. It is a whole-of-life view and includes the cyclical concept of life-death-life. (NAHS,1989).

BAHS was established in November 1986 and incorporated on 18th October 1987 as a Public Company limited by guarantee. It is an incorporated body registered under the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and is strictly governed by the guidelines, rules and regulations of the Companies Act.

BAHS is registered through the Australian Charities Not for Profit Council as a community based, Not for Profit, tax-exempt organisation with Public Benefit Institution and Gift Deductibility status. It employs the services of an independent auditor in accordance with its rules and regulations (Constitution).
