Older Tasmanians’ ability to vote protected

COTA Tasmania’s Policy Council is committed to ensuring the rights of older Tasmanians are upheld. They have been in discussions with the Australian Electoral Commission to ensure older residents of aged care facilities continue to have access to polling booths or temporary pre-polling places within their residential facility.

Tasmanian Policy Council Chair, John Pauley, says COTA has been working with the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Electoral Commission to ensure that: 

  • all older Tasmanians are enrolled to vote  

  • older Tasmanians are enrolled in the correct division

  • older Tasmanians have equitable access to polling facilities to exercise their right to vote in person if they wish
