A veteran health worker in the Kimberley WA town of Halls Creek deals regularly with vulnerable families and said violent behaviour, including elder abuse, continued from childhood well into adulthood.

"There's violence caused by young children against family, against their grandparents, their mothers and fathers," Ms Long said.

"Groups of young children will go around being violent to other groups of young children.

"There's a lot of violence caused by drugs and alcohol."

In Halls Creek and the surrounding Indigenous communities, violence does not just occur behind closed doors — it can become a public spectacle.
